Artist Statement

My sculptures express the beauty of nature and the tension created by our manipulation of the environment. Through abstraction, I translate my visions of botanical shapes and landscapes into beautiful organic forms and surfaces to increase the viewer's emotional connection with nature. I use manufactured elements as disparate parts of the organic forms to create tension meant to bring about a consciousness within the viewer.

I interpret contemporary global issues such as genetic modification of our food system, energy consumption, and society's perception of the Earth’s natural resources. I am interested in creating a balanced perspective where viewers of all backgrounds are compelled to investigate their personal relationship with the natural world, opening a dialog on the topic with others. I hope that my art will highlight some of the tensions present in our environment and encourage viewers to consider their relationship with the Earth’s natural resources.
